Restore Comfort With a Precision TMJ Appliance

A custom TMJ appliance provides targeted relief by repositioning your jaw into proper alignment while you sleep. This specially designed device reduces pressure on your jaw joint and prevents teeth grinding that often accompanies TMJ disorders.

You'll likely experience less jaw pain within just a few weeks of consistent use. The appliance also helps relax the muscles around your jaw and decreases tension headaches.

Creating your custom appliance is a comfortable, precise process. Our iTero digital scanner captures 3-D images of your teeth without messy traditional impressions. These detailed scans allow our lab to craft an appliance that fits perfectly, ensuring maximum effectiveness and comfort.

Once your appliance is ready, your dentist will carefully adjust it to your specific bite pattern. Our team will also provide simple care instructions so you can begin your journey toward TMJ relief immediately.

Protect Your Teeth While Treating TMJ Discomfort

Your TMJ appliance creates a protective barrier that stops destructive teeth grinding and clenching during sleep. This physical separation between your upper and lower teeth shields your enamel from excessive forces that can cause wear, chips, cracks, and flattening of your tooth surfaces.

The appliance helps preserve your natural tooth structure and maintains your smile's appearance and function. Preventing enamel damage with a TMJ appliance helps you avoid costly restorative treatments. Without protection, grinding can lead to the need for crowns, bonding, or other treatments for damaged teeth. The device also reduces pressure on existing dental restorations like fillings, extending their lifespan and protecting your investment in your smile.

If a misaligned bite is contributing to your TMJ problems, your dentist may suggest Invisalign® treatment. You can be assured of excellent results, thanks to Dr. Nair's participation in Molis Coaching, a program based on insights from thousands of successful cases.

If I could give 6 stars I would.. first and foremost I want to say thank you to Natalie, Bailey, and Anastasia for letting someone that hasn’t been to the dentist in 10 yrs that everything was going to be okay.. I was scared but put my scared level at 4/5 to look cool.. just a weird feeling going back to the dentist knowing you need work done.. Dr. Nair was great. There was no wait, she explained everything, and even helped understand how things would work in the two most important realms to me: financially and timeline. Thank you and I’ll be sure to tell anyone that needs dental work to go to Serenity Dental. I’m so sorry as well because I forgot the names of the two lovely ladies (one from Chicagoland) that did my fillings today. It was early and my mouth was numb so please don’t hold it against me!

Frequently Asked Questions About TMJ Treatment

How do I know if I have a TMJ disorder?
Common symptoms include jaw pain or tenderness, clicking or popping sounds when opening your mouth, difficulty or discomfort while chewing, facial pain, headaches, earaches, and limited jaw movement. If you experience these symptoms regularly, especially in combination, schedule an evaluation to determine if TMJ treatment could help relieve your discomfort.
How long will I need to wear my TMJ appliance?
Most patients wear their TMJ appliance nightly for several months to experience maximum relief. Some may eventually reduce usage to a few nights per week for maintenance. The exact timeline varies based on your specific condition and symptoms. Regular follow-up appointments allow us to monitor your progress and adjust treatment as needed.
Can TMJ disorders resolve without treatment?
Minor, temporary TMJ discomfort might resolve with rest and self-care measures like soft foods and stress reduction. However, persistent symptoms generally require professional treatment to prevent worsening. Untreated TMJ disorders often progress, causing increased pain, potential tooth damage, and chronic headaches that become more difficult to address over time.
